People planning a visit to Fraser Island off the Australian coast could benefit from buying
cheap travel insurance before they head off.
The Courier Mail reports that many motorists have had minor problems negotiating the island's sandy terrain only days after an accident on the beach killed two backpackers.
Fraser Island presents challenging driving conditions which can be particularly difficult for inexperienced motorists and tour operators have reiterated that people should take care with their speed over the uneven terrain.
Lynne Grigor, a 22-year-old Scottish backpacker visiting the region, told the paper: "I don't have any experience driving a four-wheel drive so I prefer someone else to drive. We've been told by the hire company to keep our speed down and wear seatbelts."
Kostas Ladas, skipper of the Manta Ray barge, said there have been more accidents in recent years as the area attracts young and excited drivers, some of whom may have bought
online travel insurance to experience the stunning environment.
Fraser Island has a series of freshwater lakes and is a World Heritage site.
