Backpackers concerned about risks associated with journeys into the wilderness have the option of getting hold of
worldwide travel insurance as they prepare.
Four Points reports that nine-year-old Grayson Wynne spent a night under a log in Utah's Unitah Mountains when he got separated from his family and friends while out on a three-day expedition.
The youngster took a wrong run without his backpack and ended up marking his path with yellow strips from his poncho before climbing a tree to attract a circling search helicopter.
The nine-year-old told the website: "It looked like there were two trails
so I took the wrong way and I started yelling. I started walking and it was tiring and scary because I couldn't find anyone. I was afraid I wasn't going to make it."
People heading into wilderness areas should make sure they have the right resources with them, while
online travel insurance is also an option.
Food like dried hummus and vacuum-packed tofu could help backpackers prepare for a hiking trip, according to the Examiner.
