Backpackers and other holidaymakers have the option of buying
worldwide travel insurance before facing up to new fees from Ryanair.
From Wednesday next week (May 20th), budget airline Ryanair is set to shift to an online check-in system, but passengers will be charged £5 each for separate flights.
Consumer organisation Which? Holiday has labelled the development unfair and pointed out that many backpackers and holidaymakers looking for the cheapest deals may choose to go with a rival airline to avoid paying the fee.
A spokeswoman from Which? Holiday said: "People who haven't got easy access to the internet or a printer will have to buy a printer to print off a boarding pass and when you add on all those extra fees, it might be cheaper to go somewhere else."
Ryanair is phasing out the use of check-in desks at airports over the next few months, meaning people will need to check-in on the internet before potentially buying
online travel insurance.
A recent survey from Which? Holiday found that nearly 70 per cent of surveyed members thought charges for credit and debit cards for airline tickets should be applied up front.
