People planning to defy the expensive euro by booking a trip to Europe over the next few weeks have the option of buying
cheap travel insurance before they leave home.
World First reports that despite the price of the euro, countries like Greece remain popular as it's one of the cheaper European destinations and this benefits its tourist industry when currencies fluctuate or when there are economic downturns.
Theo Papathanasiou, Greek desk manager at World First, said that when measured against the sterling and the US dollar, the euro has actually cheapened in recent months.
Mr Papathanasiou said: "Greece has been and remains at large so much cheaper than the equivalent destinations elsewhere in the sun that it has always featured as second choice in people's exclusive plans."
He added that the country has benefitted from being the back-up choice for people who may have bought
worldwide travel insurance but can't afford a more expensive holiday.
Portugal, Turkey, Tunisia and Greece all saw growth of at least ten per cent in May, according to figures from youtravel.com.
