According to Australia Network News, the island's tourism chiefs are planning to turn the tides, caused by climate change, into a marketing opportunity drawing attention to the island's plight.
Tuvalu tourism officer Fakasoa Tealei told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat radio programme sea level rise is an issue that is threatening all Tuvaluans.
Mr Tealei said local tourism officials are planning to host festivals, concerts and traditional games to coincide with the 'king tide' - the highest in the region.
He admitted the choice to turn a threatening natural force into a publicity opportunity is ironic but asked: "What else can we do?"
According to tourism website TimelessTuvalu.com, the island is one of the smallest and remotest islands in the world.
Visitors may be attracted by the spectacular ocean landscape including coral reefs and atolls or the chance to witness the local Polynesian culture.
