Owner of Jakarta's Hidden Tours Ronny Poluan told eTurboNews that his travel company gives tourists a more authentic experience by taking them to see the city's slums.
Speaking to the news network, Kerri Bell, one of the holidaymakers taking part in the tour, said: "I've been in Asia once before and we didn't want to just gloss over the surface and see all the things you can see in a western country.
"It feels to me much more like the real Jakarta, to see what drives it," she added.
According to eTurboNews, Mr Poluan keeps half of the profits from the tour while the other half goes to arts and cultural network Interkultur.
Established as a non-governmental organisation, Interkultur aims to support and promote Indonesian artists.
The organisation's website says it "seeks not only to be an active voice for practising artists in Indonesian culture life but also to promote traditional and contemporary Indonesian arts to the world".
