While the BearVault food canister survived a number of tests during its development eye-witness accounts suggest that one bear named Yellow Yellow has succeeded in stealing campers' food, reports the New York Times.
Wildlife officials told the paper that Yellow Yellow has managed to decipher a lock so complex that it defeats some humans.
Hearing the news the BearVault's owner Jamie Hogan told the New York Times: "If one genius bear can do it sooner or later there might be two genius bears.
"We’re trying to work on a new design that we can hopefully test on her," he added.
According to BearVault it is made from "super rugged transparent polycarbonate housing".
