A backpacking blogger has written of his experiences travelling to Battambang in Cambodia.
In 24-year-old Nick Claxton's latest blog entry for travelbite.co.uk he told of his difficulties with the border guards at Ban Pakard - who hassled him for an hour about a slight tear on his passport.
But when he was finally granted entry it was well worth the wait.
Battambang boasts Angkor-era temples, Buddhist sites, local farms and a bone-rattling ride on the ramshackle bamboo railway.
But it also boasts the Killing Caves - a place where Khmer Rouge followers had destroyed resistance in the area by killing off anyone seen as intellectual, "notoriously including anyone with glasses".
After the blogger toured the caves he understandably needed some light relief to offset the sadness caused by the fascinating glimpse into the beautiful country's recent history.
This was provided by watching the acrobats at the local town circus and watching the local laughing children wave at him from the banks as he travelled on the slow boat to his next destination.
