Backpackers planning to take a trip around Europe could buy
online travel insurance in preparation for a trip on a new Dover ferry link.
LD Lines is scheduled to launch a new fast ferry service between Dover and Boulogne and is planning to appeal to budget travellers, many of whom may have purchased
worldwide travel insurance, by undercutting prices charged by popular no-frills airlines.
The Incat 112-metre Wave-Piercing Catamaran will be capable of delivering six return trips to France, rather than the normal two and its ability to carry freight as well as passengers has increased its commercial viability.
Nick Stevens, spokesperson for LD Lines, said: "Travelling by car, by ferry and now particularly by fast ferry, provides the traveller with so many unique advantages."
He added that more people are being turned off by escalating taxes and lengthy check-in times at airports, providing a large potential customer base for a fast and low-cost ferry service.
The Incat 112-metre Wave-Piercing Catamaran is the biggest diesel-powered catamaran and it is being introduced in Europe for the first time.
