Cheap travel insurance could be handy for fans of Kapa Haka in NZ

Online travel insurance could be a handy purchase for visitors planning to catch the National Kapa Haka Competition in Tauranga in New Zealand.

The Daily Post reports that around 10,000 people are expected to attend the event, which involves 36 teams from across New Zealand competing in an expression of traditional Maori dance.

Backpackers may be interested to catch the event over the weekend, although accommodation may be hard to find. Many people are being referred to hostels and hotels in Rotorua owing to the lack of available beds in Tauranga.

An additional bus service has been organised to transport visitors between the two towns over the duration of the festival and all backpackers have the option of buying worldwide travel insurance.

Motel operators in Rotorua told the paper that they welcomed any extra business over the course of the festival weekend, although they had not yet seen much of a surplus beyond normal levels.

A version of the Haka is performed by the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team before matches as a traditional war cry warning their opponents.
