People with
backpacker travel insurance who are heading to Ireland for their break could soon check-in at a new hostel to be built in Limerick.
According to the Limerick Leader, plans have been given approval for the development of a new backpacker hostel at the site of the former Globe bar and club.
Worth an estimated 2 million (£1.7 million), the project will see the site transformed into an 85-bed hostel, arranged over four floors.
The hostel will include separate floors for men and women, as well as a range of facilities such as rooms dedicated for larger groups, an internet cafe, a sandwich bar and self-catering kitchen facilities.
Local councillor Maria Byrne told the newspaper that the new development would bring in plenty of tourists to the area, explaining: "An awful lot of European tourists like to use hostels."
People travelling to Ireland as part of a gap year could take out
worldwide travel insurance to cover their entire trip, allowing them to head further afield should they decide to do so.
A growing number of people are choosing to take a gap year after being made redundant from work, Gapyear.com has claimed.
The organisation said it has seen an increase in the number of young people using redundancy pay to fund a trip abroad.
