Customers with
worldwide travel insurance or additional policies who were affected by Easter ferry delays could be owed a refund, according to a report.
Many British holidaymakers and backpackers had their trips disrupted when French fishermen blockaded ports in a dispute over fishing quotas, but the BBC reports that many people could receive a refund, especially those who were booked onto package holidays.
Operators must offer a refund if the ferry trip was part of the original deal but was cancelled, although transferring to another trip of the same value or deferring the date may also be offered.
Backpackers travelling independently may find that their
online travel insurance or other policy offers less cover, although compensation may be due for a cancelled ferry trip.
Independent travellers can make their bookings using a credit card as this covers payments over £100 and enables them to claim from their card provider in the event of an incident.
Online travel agency On the Beach recently revealed that almost 40 per cent of Britons travelling overseas this year will be staying in a cheaper hotel than usual in order to save money.
