Backpackers planning to take advantage of favourable currency rates in Brazil should first seek
worldwide travel insurance.
According to research from Halifax Financial Services, a favourable exchange rate may convince more Britons to head to Brazil as holidays in Europe become more expensive. Brazil trades extensively with the United States and as a result has suffered the same economic decline that has affected the dollar. This will be especially encouraging for British backpackers keen to experience the Rio carnival in February, as they will be able to attend for less.
Suren Thiru, an economist at Halifax, said: "There are still a lot of destinations in Europe which are affordable but places outside the Euro zone are more affordable."
Backpackers are generally thought to be less concerned about the global economic downturn than people making plans for more conventional holidays, and monitoring fluctuating currencies can improve access to good travel deals.
Travellers are advised to buy
