Around 20 per cent of skiers are setting off for the ski slopes without first protecting themselves with
worldwide travel insurance, reports fairinvestment.co.uk.
New figures from esure.com have revealed that 20 per cent of skiers - or 400,000 people - are risking potentially enormous medical bills by deciding not to buy
cheap travel insurance. The study found that while ten per cent of respondents were happy to take the risk, nearly five per cent simply forgot to address the insurance issue as part of their travel plans.
Many people believe that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is all they need to cover all expenses associated with having an accident on the continent, but the reality is that it only offers cover for actual medical treatment. A £1,500 helicopter airlift from a European mountainside would have to be paid for by the skier if they had no insurance.
Skiers are advised that while travel insurance should be considered a necessity, they need to make sure that the policy they buy specifically covers all the activities they will be doing on a skiing trip.
