Cheap travel insurance could prove handy for keen air passengers as prices could rise in the coming months and years.
Abta - The Travel Association, reports that proposals to increase Air Passenger Duty (APD) towards the end of this year could result in airfares becoming prohibitively expensive for many travellers, including those with
online travel insurance.
Sean Tipton, a spokesman for the organisation, said that third-world countries could especially suffer as fewer people would be able to afford long-haul flights to more remote international destinations.
Mr Tipton said: "One of the great advantages of the last 40 years is that flying has been accessible to everybody and it has steadily been more reasonably priced so anybody could fly."
He added that if prices increase the situation could come to resemble that of the 1960s where costs prevented all but the wealthiest people from travelling.
Several UK airlines have been charging high administration costs for passengers trying to claim APD on flights they haven't used, according to Which? Holiday.
