Backpackers looking for seasonal work opportunities in Western Australia could benefit from one-way travel insurance.
The West Australian reports that vineyards in the Margaret River region of the state are having to turn away backpackers for seasonal work as a combined result of the economic downturn and a surplus of available pickers.
Backpackers are still travelling, often with
online travel insurance, despite the downturn and despite many of them looking for short-term work, vineyards are only able to employ a small proportion.
Dave Rankin, owner of Vinepower, a horticultural labour hire company, told the paper: "Every morning I'm turning people away - there are too many of them."
Mr Rankin added that French and Korean backpackers are particularly prevalent in the region, practising their English and looking to escape the downturn at home.
The regional hospitality sector has also found plenty of staff due to the increased numbers of backpackers visiting the area.
British graduates are heading to Australia and New Zealand, having decided to avoid hunting for a job in the current economic climate.
