People planning to try some exhilarating sand tobogganing on Moreton Island off the coast of Queensland, Australia, could first buy
worldwide travel insurance.
AAP reports that sand tobogganing is one of the main activities to enjoy on the island, which is a little more than an hour away from Brisbane by boat and offers some of the largest sand dunes in the world.
Sand tobogganing uses purpose-built sleds, which are taken to the top of a 90-metre dune and can be ridden down standing, sitting or lying, while the rider can reach speeds of 60 km/h.
Organised tours are available through the likes of Bushwacker Ecotours and Moreton bay Escapes, where guides take people to an organised campsite and the best dunes and swimming holes.
Backpackers, all of whom could buy
cheap travel insurance before leaving home, also have the option of snorkelling off the island's shores, with 15 deliberately sunken wrecks awaiting exploration only a few metres below the surface.
The Great Barrier Reef is Queensland's most famous underwater environment.
