Rescue teams had been alerted when Albert Briggs had failed to return home last Tuesday after a hiking trip in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the US.
Knoxville news station WBIR-TV reports that Mr Briggs was rescued on Sunday from the top of Porter's Mountain.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol lieutenant Lee Chaffin, the backpacker was in good spirits and unhurt.
The television station says Mr Briggs declined medical attention and left with relatives.
He was spotted last Saturday by a searcher on the Appalachian Trail and a helicopter dropped him food, water and a portable radio before daylight faded.
The news follows a pledge from British traveller Jamie Neale to provide £8,000 of funding to the Australian rescue services who found him after being lost in the outback for 12 days.
