Renewed interest in air safety precautions could result in increased take-up of
worldwide travel insurance.
A spate of recent air accidents, including the Hudson river landing, have resulted in more people taking an active interest in air safety before take-off, according to price comparison site Cheapflights.co.uk.
John Barrington-Carver, head of corporate communications at the website, said air passengers need to have at least a basic understanding of what to do should an incident take place.
He said that otherwise an evacuation could become more dangerous, as people may not be aware of the fastest way to exit the aircraft.
Mr Barrington-Carver said: "If one person rushes and thinks the rear door is the closest one and starts running in to people coming the other way, it is not going to help the safety and the survival prospects."
Air passengers have the option of buying
backpacker travel insurance, which can offer protection against flight cancellation.
Research from Cheapflights reveals over 15 per cent of Britons claim to be unconcerned by safety announcements delivered by flight crews.
