Keen mountain bikers planning to take a trip to the US should look for
online travel insurance before they head off.
According to coloradoan.com, mountain bikers may be treated to new terrain to explore in America as current laws may be relaxed to allow more cycling in the country's 391 national parks. Only 40 currently allow cycling on anything other than road networks, and even in these cyclists must keep to defined paths so as to minimise effects on the landscape. President Bush, himself a keen cyclist, is looking to relax the rules before he leaves office next year.
Cycling in areas such as Rocky Mountain National Park will remain largely off-limits due to their environmental sensitivity, but limited cycling may soon be allowed in places such as Utah's Canyonlands National Park and Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.
Backpackers are strongly urged to seek
online travel insurance before mountain biking overseas, as a fall on rough terrain could lead to expensive medical procedures to re-set broken bones.
