Online travel insurance could be beneficial for people anticipating a hard time completing US travel visas upon entry to the US.
Despite a wave of pro-American spirit in the aftermath of Barack Obama's election as president, recently-introduced visa complexities have discouraged many people from visiting the US, according to the US Travel Association.
Figures from the US department of commerce reveal that there were nearly 140,000 fewer arrivals in the country from the UK in 2008 than there were in 2000. Many of these visitors may have purchased
worldwide travel insurance.
Kristy Chandler, director of communications at the US Travel Association, said: "Our research shows that this decline is due to perceptions abroad about the hassle factor of getting a visitor visa and the process of entering the United States."
She added that the US needs to increase the amount of money it spends on promoting its tourism industry as it falls far behind other western countries.
In a recent survey from Saga Holidays, more than ten per cent of over-50s in London said that the election of Barack Obama would make them more likely to travel to the US.
