Flashpackers heading on an extended trip overseas could benefit from
worldwide travel insurance to help protect their belongings.
The Canwest News Service reports that travellers who head off on trips around the world with money to spend and expensive electronic equipment in tow are being referred to as 'flashpackers' by many in the tourism sector.
Whereas in the past backpackers have relied on postcards and the occasional long-distance phone call to keep friends and family updated with their progress, more people are travelling with laptops, digital cameras and a range of other hi-tech devices.
This heightened global connectivity has drawn criticism from some. Lea Woodward, who currently lives in India and operates LocationIndependent.com, told the news provider: "People can be too connected at times, forgetting to just sit and take things in because they're too interested in twittering or blogging."
Everyone could consider
backpacker travel insurance to provide additional protection for expensive electronics.
Hostels around the world are increasingly competing with more upmarket hotels owing to improved conditions and facilities, including round-the-clock web access in many.
