Cheap travel insurance could be a good idea for backpackers planning a visit to a new water trail opened in Ohio's Lorain County in the US.
The Morning Journal reports that the Vermilion-Lorain water trail has opened in the state and been officially recognised by the Ohio division of watercraft, while over $16,500 (£10,000) of state funding will pay for maps and signposting along the way.
Nature lovers and canoeists can enjoy a route of almost 30 miles downstream from Vermilion River Reservation in Brownhelm Township and then upstream to Elyria's Black River Reservation.
John Wisse, spokesman for the Ohio division of watercraft, told the paper: "When you've got hiking trails and biking trails and you tie them into these designated water trails, you've got the best of all possible worlds."
Watercraft, as it is known in the US, is popular in Ohio, with over 80,600 canoes and kayaks registered in the state last year alone.
Backpackers could always buy
gap year travel insurance before heading off on a watercraft trip.
In related news, Examiner.com reports that the right preparation can lead to rewarding exploration of over 800 trails in California's Yosemite National Park.
