Online travel insurance urged for backpackers heading to Solomon Islands

Online travel insurance is recommended for backpackers looking to visit the Solomon Islands on their trip, reports solomonstarnews.com.

Local diving tourism operator Dive Gizo has received a grant from World Bank Group member the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to help promote the business on the internet. Solomonislands-hotels.travel will be launched in Australia at the Sydney Adventure Travel and Backpackers Expo in November and will offer information on tour operators and accommodation in the Solomon Islands.

Seth Gukuna, minister for tourism, told the website: "This is an important addition to our country's tourism promotion channels."

The Solomon Islands will be the sixth web portal to be used in this way in the Pacific region and the 40th that has benefited from IFC support.

Dive Gizo said that the portal allowed small local businesses to make their presence known to backpackers and travellers from across the world.

Backpackers heading for the Solomon Islands should check they have online travel insurance first.
