Backpackers are urged to buy
cheap travel insurance before heading off to any one of the 50 "authentic" destinations described in a new listing.
Personalities such as Piers Morgan, Will Self and Alain de Botton contributed to the listing which details a selection of 50 destinations across the world that are considered to offer the "most authentic" experience to travellers. Featured locations are pretty diverse, ranging from Albania and Damascus to and Indian wildlife reserve and Dungeness in Kent.
Mark Jones, who compiled the list for British Airways' High Life magazine, told metro.co.uk: "You are eligible for an authentic experience as a tourist just as much as you are as a traveller."
Whereas many backpackers and budget travellers buy
gap year travel insurance and head in large numbers for increasingly traditional countries such as Australia and New Zealand, the idea behind the new list is to open collective eyes to less obvious destinations that are still worth a look.
Worldwide travel insurance is recommended as part of any tourist's plans.
