cheap travel insurance as an opt-in feature, rather than including it automatically when a flight is booked.
Airlines have, in the past, frequently included
worldwide travel insurance automatically in customers' purchases.
Ryanair customers have previously had to opt out of travel insurance purchases twice while making a booking in order to avoid buying the product.
Sinead Finn of Ryanair said: "We urge passengers to pay urgent attention when booking their flights from April 2nd. It will be each passenger's responsibility to buy travel insurance for their trip."
Many airlines try to sell their own travel insurance as part of a flight package, but backpackers have the option of shopping around for better deals.
American Express recently advised airports to focus on customer needs during the recession, in order to keep passengers happy during their travels.
