Keen skiers heading for the New Zealand slopes have the option of buying one-way travel insurance before they leave home.
The Dominion Post reports that Mount Ruapehu in the centre of New Zealand's North Island has had a series of snow storms, low humidity and clear days to produce some of the best skiing and snowboarding conditions the region has seen for years.
Dozens of snowguns have also been used to complement the natural snowfall, with 20,000 litres of water sent out every minute, 24 hours a day.
Mike Smith, marketing manager at Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, told the paper: "The snowmaking guys, Fred Campbell and Baltazar Sanchez, are like pigs in the proverbial, there's so much snow around."
About 200 staff will help provide services to around 2,000 skiers who are expected on the slopes in the coming weeks, many of whom may have bought
backpacker travel insurance.
Backpackers and other holidaymakers could check their insurance to make sure it covers them in the event of a skiing accident as sometimes specialist cover is needed.
