Each year numerous skiers and snowboarders are injured on mountains around the world and it often isn't until treatment is needed that many think of the benefits of
cheap travel insurance.
Travel insurance with snow sports cover is just as essential on a skiing or snowboarding holiday as goggles, waterproof clothing or hats with pompoms, according to MoneySupermarket.com.
The website recommends that adventurous travellers check the small print in their policies to ensure they are aware of any conditions in which they would not be covered.
"Embarking on a winter sports holiday can be costly, especially when you add on all the necessary extras, but comprehensive cover needn't be expensive," said MoneySupermarket head of insurance Peter Gerrard.
"Brits that save their hard earned cash for a snow-filled adventure must ensure they are adequately insured; it is important to scour the small-print before travelling to avoid any nasty surprises on the slopes."
Examples of some things that might not be covered include back-country boarding and ski-jumping.
