According to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), help keep European tourism afloat as they are to an extent, recession-proof.
Bucking the trend for saving during the downturn, Florentino Perez, club president at football club Real Madrid, is considering building a £135 million Disney-style theme park.
Commenting on the news, Andreas Veilstrup Andersen, executive director at IAAPA Europe, said: "Theme and amusement parks are very strong drivers of tourism this could also very well be the case with the Real Madrid Park.
"A theme park can also help with building the brand, as is the case with for example Disney and Universal Studios."
He noted that the total economic impact of theme and amusement parks in Europe "is approximately 12.0 billion euros [£10.9 billion]".
Looking back over recent months, takings for theme and amusement parks had not been "as bad as many feared", added Mr Anderson.
