Backpackers heading to popular overseas destinations such as South Africa, Australia and New Zealand should first buy
online travel insurance.
According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito), Australia and New Zealand will not lose their popularity as tourist and backpackers destinations, while things also look good for South Africa at the moment. Australia and New Zealand are two of the most popular backpacker destinations in the world, while South Africa currently offers good value for money and the similar longitude means no jet-lag.
Kate Kenward, executive director at Aito, said: "South Africa is a good one because it is in the same timeframe so jet lag is not a problem, and the rand's good with the pound. Australia and New Zealand will always be popular with the Brits no matter what."
Ms Kenward added that many Britons now have friends and family in Australia, which makes repeat visits increasingly common.
Backpacker travel insurance should be considered as a necessity by anyone heading out on a long-haul adventure.
