Backpackers planning to become one of the rising number of people to visit South Korea could first buy one-way travel insurance.
Tourism in the country is increasing by up to eight per cent each year, according to the Korean Tourism Organisation, with more people becoming attracted by the vibrant culture of Seoul and the stunning scenery in the surrounding countryside.
A major attraction for the coming months is the Lotus Lantern Festival, taking place between 24th and 26th April. The festival celebrates the birth of Buddha and is a significant pull for the many international tourists who visit each year.
Michael Michael, marketing manager at the Korean Tourism Organisation, said: "You've got the temples and palaces. There is some fantastic mountain scenery on the outskirts of Seoul. There is great shopping, nightlife and food and it is very safe."
The country intends to continue elevating its tourist appeal by attracting ten million tourists from around the world over the course of this year.
South Korea has one of the largest economies in Asia and Seoul is the world's second biggest metropolitan city.
