People planning a trip to the so-called worst hotel in the world could buy one-way travel insurance before they leave home.
The Hans Brinker in Amsterdam is establishing a reputation for its advertising campaign that deliberately plays up to its self-proclaimed title.
Drawing attention to the possibility of dust mites in the bed, soiled sheets and cigarette burns on the carpets, the hotel is aimed squarely at budget travellers who appreciate its cynical sense of humour and are looking for a cheap place to stay.
Despite - or perhaps because of - the advertising, the hotel has proven a successful business over the past ten years. Erik Kessels, an advertising account manager who originally took on the challenge of promoting the hotel, told the Canwest News Service: "That's marketing. We say, 'Improve your immune system' with a picture of bed bugs. It doesn't say there are bed bugs."
