Backpacker travel insurance could be handy for people who have been in Australia long enough to receive a $900 (£433.75) government handout.
The Cairns Post reports that many backpackers could be eligible for the stimulus handout if they have remained in the same place in Australia for six months and have been working the same job for most of that period.
Britons who paid tax and filed a tax return in Australia during the last financial year could benefit, even if they have since returned to the UK.
Australians are to receive the handout in a bid to encourage them to spend and stimulate the economy, while John Hannan, a hostel manager in Cairns, told the paper that backpackers are likely to spend the money in Australia if they haven't yet returned home.
Cairns is hugely popular among backpackers, many of whom buy
gap year travel insurance before leaving home, and offers access to the Great Barrier Reef, which remains one of the world's most famous tourist attractions.
