Brits often buy
cheap travel insurance at the last minute without checking the terms and conditions of their policies, research indicates.
According to statistics from travelsupermarket.com, a third (33 per cent) of holidaying Brits are more likely to do something risky that they would not consider doing at home.
Speaking on behalf of the website, expert Bob Atkinson commented that many don't realise, for example, that being under the influence of drugs or alcohol can invalidate some
online travel insurance claims.
"People buy travel insurance as a distress purchase so they tend to buy it at the last minute thinking 'I've got to have travel insurance'," he said.
Mr Atkinson added that individuals taking out travel insurance must still be aware of their "personal limits and safety".
According to figures from EssentialTravel.co.uk released last month, 70 per cent of British holidaymakers were unaware that their insurance policy might not cover them in the event of a drunken accident or injury.
