The Mail Tribune reports that backpackers looking to travel light can find good advice from Carol Corbridge in her new book The Boomer's Guide to Lightweight Backpacking. Ms Corbridge draws on the fact that travelling light can make life much easier while on the road. She advises campers to ditch the conventional tent and instead opt for a lightweight hammock and bug-netting in warmer climes, while compact cameras and binoculars will also help save weight.
Jayna Harrison, who illustrated Ms Corbridge's book, told the website: "The concept of simplicity in backpacking has helped me live pretty simply in daily life and not let a lot of superfluous stuff be around me."
The book also advises carrying dehydrated food in order to save weight, while backpacks with separate front pouches help to distribute weight while walking.
