The credit crunch might be bearing its teeth but backpackers are still planning their trips for next year, it has been revealed.
A survey conducted recently by kayak.co.uk found that while money is tight Britons are not prepared to forego their travels and 98 per cent said they were willing to cut back on luxuries to ensure they would not miss out.
Ian Bradley, a spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito), has also noted the determination of British people to take a well-earned break and highlights the fact that, recession or no recession, bookings for next year are looking healthy.
"People are deciding that they are going to take their holiday next year and want to budget for it at the moment - book it now and save up in the meantime," he explained.
Backpackers looking to head abroad next year will not only have to consider the cost of the holiday but also securing adequate
backpacker travel insurance and the price of essentials in their proposed destination.
In an interview with the Times recently, Joe Bindloss, co-author of Lonely Planet's Gap Year Book, urged backpackers to draw up a budget before departing on their travels.
