Sales of
cheap travel insurance could increase after two Irish backpackers were robbed shortly after arriving in Perth, Australia.
Perth Now reports that backpacking couple Aidan Phelan and Claire Mullins had their car stolen from the car park at Scarborough Beach this week only two days following their arrival in the region.
The couple had a series of mementos in the vehicle, including photos, clothes and camping equipment, all of which had been collected over the course of two years in the country.
Ms Mullins told the paper: "It was a pretty quick job; we were at the car around 2.30pm and when Aidan went back up about 3pm it was gone. It was a beautiful day, the beach was busy, the car park was busy - there were a lot of people around."
She added that even if the Mitsubishi Verada is found, it should serve as a cautionary tale to people visiting the region.
Backpackers may choose to buy
online travel insurance to protect their belongings.
In related news, a 24-year-old man was recently arrested in Darwin for a range of crimes including theft from a local hostel, reports Australia.TO.
