Worldwide travel insurance customers are looking for something a little out of the ordinary from their getaway this year.
This is the view of Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, who said that unusual breaks, which could include backpacking trips, create talking points for people when they return from their holidays.
She commented: "Travellers look for something a little different. Culture, adventure, activity and learning holidays offer time-out with a feeling of having done something worthwhile - plus these experiences are great for after dinner conversation."
Ms Livingston added that a culture for regular travel has emerged from today's society, which she said is a "low-cost travel heyday".
Earlier this week, Ms Livingston claimed that holidaymakers could save money by downsizing the level of accommodation they stay in.
She said this approach is sensible, as many people spend very little time in their hotel or hostel and are instead out exploring their holiday destination.
