Backpackers planning to camp in New Zealand should buy
cheap travel insurance before they head off.
Stuff.co.nz reports news from the Nelson Mail that camping is becoming more popular in New Zealand as travellers from around the world look to save money. While New Zealanders are taking their summer holidays in local campsites to reduce their spending, international backpackers with
online travel insurance are also looking to save money on accommodation having travelled so far.
Rob Guild, manager of Nelson's Kaiteriteri Motor Camp, told the website: "I think the season is going to be busier than ever as a typical Kiwi cheaper, camping-type holiday."
The rise of domestic tourism in New Zealand should help boost the economy while the growth in popularity of campsites across the country could also encourage international tourists looking to save money.
Many campsites have nonetheless reported reduced bookings, but tourists are generally staying longer than usual.
Camping can be a terrific experience in New Zealand owing to the country's spectacular scenery.
