Cheap travel insurance is advised for travellers looking for a bed in the Australian city of Perth.
According to Perth Now, a shortage of beds is beginning to cause problems in Perth, as local residents unable to afford rental accommodation costs are moving into backpacker hostels instead. Steep prices and the requirements of local miners and other workers means that hostel managers are doing their best to accommodate the needs of people from the region, but it means there is less room for international backpackers.
Jim Neilson, manager of Old Swan Barracks, a hostel in Northridge, told the website: "There is a lot of pressure to take WA locals, but we don't get involved heavily because we're mainly for international visitors."
Mr Neilson added that he is currently turning away around 20 backpackers a day as there are not enough beds in the hostel to offer.
Backpackers should get themselves
online travel insurance to ensure suitable cover if they opt to stay in hostels, owing to the communal nature of backpacker accommodation.
