Backpackers are strongly advised to buy a first aid kit for their journey in addition to
online travel insurance.
The Olympian.com reports advice from outdoor experts REI saying that backpackers should always carry a first aid kit with them wherever they go in the world, in addition to having comprehensive
worldwide travel insurance. Miniature kits can be bought which are specifically designed for travellers who are conscious of excess weight, carrying all the essentials in a lightweight package.
Kits should contain basic things such as bandages, tweezers, plastic gloves and a cutting device of some kind, while pain relievers like aspirin and any necessary prescription drugs can be added to the collection.
Travellers heading to more remote areas should consider taking a first aid course, as help could be hard to reach in some places.
Backpackers should always seek local knowledge in areas with which they are unfamiliar and make sure people are aware of where they are going and when they will be due back.
