Backpackers planning to avoid the growing expense of a journey through the eurozone have the option of buying
gap year travel insurance.
Web-based exchange platform FairFX.com reports Turkey is proving a more popular travel destination for many Britons as it lies beyond the eurozone and so offers better value for money at the moment.
Rishi Patel, head of FX trading at the website, said the pound has been much more stable against the Turkish lira than it has been against the US dollar and the euro.
Mr Patel added: "A lot of people are generally saying that the eurozone is a very expensive destination now. Even a pint of beer or a dinner out is going to cost you, in relative terms, 20 to 25 per cent more. Turkey is the next best alternative."
Cheap travel insurance could be a good way for backpackers to save more money when heading overseas.
The second quarter of this year saw a rise of almost 30 per cent in the quantity of Turkish lira sold to UK customers, in comparison to the same period last year.
