More backpackers could compare flight prices on the internet, while buying
cheap travel insurance is also an option.
According to European comparison website trivago, more people should be shopping around on the internet for the best air travel prices as many travellers tend to use only one website or agent.
Sian Williams, country manager UK for the website, said that people should make sure that they at least check around for deals, although she conceded that many have a small selection of sites that they prefer to buy from.
Ms Williams said: "A lot of people don't realise that there are a lot of prices out there and it is good for them to compare all the prices that are out there."
She added that potential savings of £100 are available to people who spend a few minutes checking prices on a variety of different websites rather than using the same one to book every trip. People could also shop around for one-way travel insurance.
A new trivago survey has revealed that only 35 per cent of Britons will specifically seek to compare prices this year.
