Backpackers taking an international flight always have the option of buying
online travel insurance and they could also pay more attention to airport security.
The Air Transport Users Council (AUC) reports that many Britons, all of whom may have bought
cheap travel insurance, are still trying to take excess quantities of liquids onto flights, despite strict regulations.
Nearly 20 per cent of Britons have had liquid products confiscated at airport security terminals, according to figures from G4S Aviation Services.
James Fremantle, industry affairs manager from the AUC, said: "All we can do is try and publicise the rules as much as possible and try and get the message out that it is not worth trying it on as the airports will find out."
He added that passengers who do try to smuggle through more than their allowance will only end up being out of pocket as their drink or product gets confiscated.
