Backpackers planning a trip to the increasingly popular far-eastern country of Taiwan have the option of getting
online travel insurance before they leave home.
Essentialtravel.co.uk reports that two million people have already visited Taiwan so far this year and there has been an increase of nearly 15 per cent in the number of people heading there through the first six months of 2009 compared to the first half of last year.
Many backpackers choose to stop in the country as they pause between long-haul flights to more established destinations such as New Zealand and Australia, but Taiwan has a rich culture of its own to explore, not to mention stunning landscapes and dramatic mountain ranges.
Officials are looking to continue developing the country's appeal to backpackers, many of whom may have bought
gap year travel insurance before making the journey, as well as families and business tourists.
A quarter of British tourists plan to head overseas without travel insurance this year, according to a study from Post Office Travel Insurance.
