Backpackers planning to explore Australia in a campervan have the option of buying
worldwide travel insurance to help protect their belongings.
According to campervan hire firm Traveller's Auto Barn, campervans can be nice targets for thieves as they tend to draw attention to themselves through their size and loud colour schemes, while they also contain all the holiday items of whoever has hired them in the first place.
The firm recommends that backpackers - many of whom may have bought
gap year travel insurance - always make sure they keep doors and windows locked and are careful not to leave valuables in plain view.
John Lang, from Traveller's Auto Barn, said: "Pull the curtains across the windows so no one can see inside and they won't know if there is even someone in there. If you don't have curtains in a vehicle that you buy, go out and buy some. They are cheap and you will regret not having them."
In other transport news, the Association of Independent Travel Operators recently said that rising airline costs are prompting more people to seek alternative ways of getting abroad.
Going, going, gone. Downunder for
cheap travel insurance.
