Backpackers inspired by celebrity Cairns visit could buy gap year travel insurance

Backpackers planning a trip to Cairns, Australia, to follow in the footsteps of celebrity biker Charley Boorman have the option of buying one-way travel insurance.

Cairns.com.au reports that Boorman, best known for biking around the world with his film star friend Ewan McGregor in the TV travelogue Long Way Round, was in Cairns this week for his new project.

The traveller was visiting friends on a day off from his project By Any Means 2, which involves travelling from Sydney to northern Japan, after which he plans to head back to Ireland.

Boorman's arrival in Cairns marks his second trip to the region after nearly 25 years. He told the website: "I worked here in Cairns and up there in Port Douglas and Mossman. I went off diving and did all the things that you do so it is quite nice to come back actually."

People planning to follow in the star's footsteps can always buy online travel insurance before they leave home.

For his previous trip, By Any Means, Boorman travelled from Wicklow, Ireland, to Sydney, taking as many different forms of transport as possible.
