Backpackers planning a visit to Thailand should buy
cheap travel insurance before setting off on their trip.
The Guardian reports that now could be a good time to visit Thailand as many of the more remote areas are far less crowded than normal and there are great deals to be found as a result. The global economic crisis has impacted on tourism in the area, with the country suffering as a result of many holidaymakers deciding to stay closer to home. In addition, the recent airport occupations have also had a dramatic effect with many areas having been cut off from central transport hubs.
Craig Douglas, general manager of Sala Samui on Samui's Choeng Mon beach, told the paper: "We're putting together some special offers and should get through okay, but there has definitely been a downturn."
The downturn has had less of an impact on backpackers' travel ambitions, and many will be encouraged by the prospect of reduced rates in Thailand and beautiful near-deserted beaches. All are advised to first buy
