online travel insurance could be another way for cash-strapped holidaymakers searching for breaks in less traditional locations to save money.
According to comparison site Cheapflights.co.uk, Britons are becoming more open to booking holidays outside the eurozone, in countries such as Morocco and Turkey.
Francesca Ecsery, global sales director at the firm, said customers were increasingly searching for more exotic destinations as it takes just half an hour longer to get to them compared to more usual tourist destinations.
She added that price comparison services make it easier for customers to find the cheapest deals.
"They allow the user to choose from everything that is out there whereas they would have to trawl through them themselves when they are not sure where they are listed," explained Ms Ecsery.
A report from consumer specialist Which? published last week found that Travelsupermarket.com was the easiest comparison site to use with good fare results on its deals.
