Gap year travel insurance policyholders looking for an affordable destination could look to Latin America for a good value trip, says the Mexico Tourism Board.
The stability of the peso is already encouraging British holidaymakers to visit the country, according to tourism bosses.
Manuel Diaz Cebrian, the board's director for the UK and Europe, said recent figures suggest many Britons are taking advantage of the favourable exchange rates.
"The stability of the peso against the pound is good news for the Mexican tourism industry and we believe has incentivised more Brits to travel," he explained.
He suggested first-time visitors should look further than the country's beach resorts and familiarise themselves with Mexican culture.
"I'd also advise that they investigate authentic Mexican cuisine perhaps visit a traditional Mexican Marisqueria [fish market] or investigate one of the many gourmet Mexican restaurants," he added.
New figures from the International Currency Exchange reveal that the rate for the peso is currently 21.76, indicating the pound is 9.75 per cent stronger than last year.
